What can the Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) do for me?

Light is an excellent beauty enhancing tool. Unwanted hair, fine lines and wrinkles, blemishes, acne, age and sun spots and superficial facial vascular lesions can be treated with IPL.

How does it work?

The non invasive Pulsed Light therapies are based on the principle of selective photothermolysis. The process involves local selective absorption of an intense light pulse at wavelength spectra that are absorbed by the desired targets. The three most relevant targets are MELANIN (in skin, hair, hair follicle, blemishes) HAEMOGLOBIN (in blood vessels) and PORPHYRINS (acne).

The target absorbs the directed light energy which is then transformed into heat, raising the temperature in the selected area to that sufficient for coagulation. This way the target can be destroyed selectively without damaging the surrounding tissue.

Am I a suitable candidate for IPL treatments?

This non invasive treatment is an ideal solution for both women and men of all ages. However there are a few medical conditions which are contraindicated, such as pregnancy, cancer and open wounds (within the treatment area). Recently sun tanned or fake tanned skin cannot be treated.

What does the treatment involve?

After routine skin cleansing the treatment head is applied to the skin, delivering precise pulses of yellow, orange, red or blue light to the area being treated. The treatment head emits different wavelength ranges through the use of cut-off filters. The treatment is relatively painless but you may experience some and a sensation likened to a light pinch or the snap of a rubber band and heat. There is no post-treatment pain or discomfort and you can return to your normal daily activities immediately but make sure you apply sun protection when in the sun.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments will be determined by the area to be treated and the client’s individual response to the treatment. A full consultation will be given prior to the first treatment.
Hair removal according to medical data, an average of 8 – 12 treatments can be expected but this may vary. Treatments are at 4 – 6 weekly intervals, depending on the area to be treated
